C.’s journey to becoming a doula started every time she heard a negative birth story, or doubt in the human body. Her mom often spoke about the one birth that hadn’t gone as planned but rarely spoke of the two peaceful ones. This always struck C., there must be a way to take the fear and panic out of birth. Throughout her life C.’s passion for birth grew, even through theatre school, and especially when her friends started having babies themselves.

In 2019, after going through early pregnancy loss, C. wrote a play about the rights of pregnant and birthing people and was driven to do more to serve birthing people in her community. It was at this time that C. knew she was being called to do Doula work. After her daughter was born in November 2020, C. began the training and certification process of becoming a doula. She had felt she had come home in a way.

C.’s goal as a doula is to facilitate a positive birth experience for the growing family, whatever that birth experience may look like. She is excited to work with families with all different types of birth plans, backgrounds and family preferences. “It is my strong belief that a Doula should be accessible to all birthing people regardless of medical history, gender, race, faith, or socioeconomic background.”

“I loved having C. by my side during my birth. My goal was to go natural, however my water broke and I needed an induction with pitocin. C. talked me through my options which helped tremendously. She also gave me the questions to ask my OB to make sure whever I decide feels right (timing of the pitocin was the big question). She was the constant calmness in the room- whenever I opened my eyes she was right there which felt so reassuring when you don’t know what’s going on with your body and whether it is all normal. C. has a very good energy- she is approachable and proactive which made it easy for the team at the hospital to work with her.  I really had the best experience thanks to her. After birth she was also very helpful- I learned all the options and positions for breastfeeding which made my journey pretty easy from the start.
